Joy Belmonte is next QC mayor

(Eagle News)—–Outgoing Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte is the next mayor of Quezon City.

Belmonte, daughter of Sonny Belmonte who served as mayor and congressman himself, got 469,480 votes vis à vis her closest rival 1st district Rep. Bingbong  Crisologo’s 366,215, at a 100 percent election returns transmission rate.

Former congressman Ismael Mathay III was a far third, with 19106 votes.

Independent candidate Emma Orozco got 3588 votes and Henry Samonte 2810.

The vice mayoralty contest was a tight one, with Gian Sotto, Senate President Tito Sotto’s son, beating his closest rival, PDP-Laban’s Jopet Sison, by  only a slim margin of 38920 votes.

Former comedian Roderick Paulate was a far third with 112697 votes.

In the congressional race, Crisologo’s son Onyx won as representative of the first district of Quezon City, while outgoing Councilor Precious Castelo, who was backed by the elder Belmonte, won in the second district.

Allan Benedict Reyes was elected representative of the third district, Bong Suntay of the fourth district, Alfred Vargas of the fifth, and Kit Belmonte of the sixth district.
