(Eagle News)–“Ineng” has slightly accelerated as it approaches the southern Taiwan-Batanes area on Saturday, Aug. 24.
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said the severe tropical storm, which, as of 4 a.m. today was estimated at 105 kilometers east northeast of Basco, Batanes, is expected to cross the Bashi Channel.
“Ineng” is packing maximum sustained winds of up to 100 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 125 kilometers per hour, and is moving northwest at 20 kilometers per hour.
A signal number 2 has been hoisted over Batanes and the Babuyan Group of Islands, while a signal number 1 was in place in Cagayan, Isabela, Apayao, Kalinga, Northern Abra and Ilocos Norte.
Today, moderate to heavy rains may prevail over Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Batanes, and Cagayan (including Babuyan Islands), PAGASA said.
Light to moderate with intermittent heavy rains may be experienced on the other hand over Metro Manila, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Mindoro Provinces, northern portions of Palawan (including Calamian and Cuyo Islands), Aklan, Antique, Iloilo, and Guimaras.
Sea travel is risky over the seaboards of areas under a storm signal, over the seaboards of Luzon, and the eastern seaboard of Visayas due to potentially rough sea conditions, the weather bureau said.
“Ineng” is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) today between late afternoon and early evening.
