(Eagle News)–Severe Tropical Storm “Ineng accelerated further on Saturday, Aug. 24, and is now approaching Batanes, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.
PAGASA said as of this morning, the center of “Ineng” was estimated at 105 kilometers north of Basco.
“Ineng” is packing maximum sustained winds of up to 100 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 125 kilometers per hour, as it moves west northwest at 30 kilometers per hour.
PAGASA said “Ineng” will cross the Bashi Channel this morning.
Signal No. 2 remains hoisted over Batanes and Babuyan Group of Islands, while Signal No. 1 is in place in Cagayan, Isabela, Apayao, Kalinga, Northern Abra and Ilocos Norte.
Today, PAGASA said moderate to heavy rains may prevail over Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Batanes, Cagayan (including Babuyan Islands), Zambales, Bataan, Mindoro Provinces, and northern portions of Palawan (including Calamian and Cuyo Islands).
Light to moderate with intermittent heavy rains, on the other hand, may be experienced over Metro Manila, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Aklan, Antique, Iloilo, Guimaras, and the rest of Central Luzon and Cagayan Valley.
As for sea travel, PAGASA said this was “risky” over the seaboards of areas under a signal, over the seaboards of Luzon, and the eastern seaboard of Visayas “due to potentially rough sea conditions.”
“Ineng” is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility this afternoon.
