Says he has until Nov. 20, when Congress resumes, to do that

(Eagle News) — He may have been designated as the president’s new spokesperson, but Harry Roque is not about to resign as congressman just yet.

In an interview with CNN Philippines aired on Wednesday, Roque, who is currently the Kabayan party-list representative in the Lower House, said that after all, he has until Nov. 20, when Congress resumes, to do just that.

Roque is set to assume his new post in Malacanang on Nov. 6.

“I am incoming presidential spokesperson, and so far, I am able to discharge my functions..You just speak. There’s no legal impediment to it,” Roque, a lawyer, said.

Once Roque resigns, one of the party-list representatives is likely to replace him.

It is still unclear who will represent Kabayan in the House of Representatives though as Roque said that he has filed several complaints against the party-list’s first nominee, Rep. Ron Salo.

In a separate statement, Roque said the six ethics complaints he filed for multiple violations of the House of Representatives’ Code of Conduct were declared sufficient in form and substance in August.

“It’s been a year and four months since I filed the ethics complaints…I’m not saying kick him out, although I would want that. But please, accord me justice,” he said.
