Imelda Marcos cites health issues for her absence during graft case promulgation

(Eagle News) — Former First Lady Imelda Marcos said she was not present during the promulgation of her case on Friday, Nov. 9, because her doctor had advised her against “stressful conditions” that would put her at risk.

In her motion filed before the Sandiganbayan Fifth Division, Marcos said she was, after all, suffering from “multiple organ infirmities.”

A medical certificate attached to the motion said the former First Lady was suffering from seven health conditions, including hypertension.

Marcos apologized, and asked the anti-graft court for “her standing be restored and that she be given leave to avail of the remedies provided under the Rules of Criminal Procedure against her judgment of conviction.”

The motion will be heard on Friday, Nov. 16.

Marcos was found guilty of seven counts of graft over the creation of several foundations in Switzerland when she was a  Minister of Human Settlements, a member of the then-Batasang Pambansa, and a Metro Manila governor.
