(Eagle News) — House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez called on the chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Director General Ronald dela Rosa to resign after he himself expressed deep shame and regret that a Korean businessman was killed inside the national police headquarters in Camp Crame in Quezon City.
In a statement, Alvarez called on Rosa to “immediately resign as chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) to save President Rodrigo Duterte from further embarrassment and restore respect to the Office of the PNP Chief.”
“The commission of a heinous crime right in his very nose is not only an insult but a clear indication that he has lost the respect of his people,” Alvarez said of Dela Rosa .
This came about a day after the PNP chief himself revealed the results of their investigation that Ji was killed inside Camp Crame by policemen led by SPO3 Ricky Sta. Isabel on the same day that he was kidnapped from his house in a subdivision in Pampanga City on October 18 last year.
The House leader said Dela Rosa seems to be more “interested in having a showbiz career and in landing on society pages of newspapers with his being everywhere doing mundane things like singing videoke and watching concerts.”
He also cited alleged “booboos” of the PNP chief in the social media.
“Social media like YouTube is now replete with the booboos of General Dela Rosa including his running away from a press conference like a headless chicken after the pyrotechnic device he was holding started to smoke,” he said.
“How can we believe the stern statements Dela Rosa had been making against criminals like in the aftermath of the Davao City bombing when he was the first to run in the slightest possibility of danger?” Alvarez asked.
Dela Rosa, however, said he would only resign if President Duterte himself would order him to do so.
