Honasan accepts offer to be DICT secretary

(Eagle News)–Senator Gregorio Honasan has accepted President Rodrigo Duterte’s offer to be the next secretary of the Department of Information and Communications Technology.

“For a better Philippines, a better government, for the Filipino People, and for a better future for our most precious Children; I have decided to accept the offer of the President to help lead the DICT,” he said in a text message.

According to Honasan, he would be deemed resigned from the Senate as soon as he is confirmed by the Commission on Appointments and when he takes his oath.

With Honasan’s departure from the Senate, only 22 senators would remain, including Senator Leila de Lima, who is detained in Camp Crame on drug-related charges.

Earlier, Senator Alan Peter Cayetano was named Foreign Affairs secretary.

He, however, resigned to run for a seat in Congress in 2019.
