‘Hi-tech’ signal jammers installed at NBP’s Building 14

(Eagle News)– Two new military-grade signal jammers were installed on Tuesday (September 26) inside Building 14 at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) where convicted drug lords and high-profile inmates are detained.

The barred drug lords were known to continue their illegal operations and transactions with the use of cellphones.

Each signal jammer has a blocking range of 20 meters and can disrupt communication signals, which can also affect some nearby residential areas.

The jammers have been placed in a tightly secured area to prevent sabotage from inmates and corrupt Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) personnel.

Previous jammers were sabotaged through the use of salt and electricity.

The deployment of Special Action Force (SAF) made the smuggling of cellphones inside NBP difficult.

The BuCor has requested Philippine National Police (PNP) to extend SAF’s  post in the national penitentiary for another six months. (RF Salvador, Eagle News Service)
