Hand-woven ASEAN fabrics take center stage in two-day exhibit in Pasay

Avid fans of hand-woven fabrics would have had the time of their lives in the two-day exhibit of Association of Southeast Asian Nations textiles recently held in Pasay City.

“Tela ASEAN,” which was organized prior to the country’s hosting of the 31st ASEAN Leaders’ Summit next week, also showcased natural dyes and naturally dyed products used by people from those member-states.

The event–held from Nov. 7 to Nov. 8–was made possible by the Department of Science and Technology’s Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI), with support from the ASEAN Foundation.

The DOST-PTRI said apart from showcasing the rich culture of Southeast Asia through fabrics, the event aims to tighten cooperation in different aspects among member-states of the regional bloc.
