Gordon says Faeldon, other ex-Customs officials can still be made liable for graft for P6-B shabu shipment

QUEZON CITY, Philippines (Eagle News) — Senate Blue Ribbon Committee Chairman Richard Gordon said that former officials of the Bureau of Customs, including former Customs chief Nicanor Faeldon can still be made liable on the more than Php 6 billion shabu shipment that had passed through customs during his time.

“There is yet no final evidence to establish that Customs personnel are not in any way liable for the importation of drugs and on its entry into the green lane,” Gordon said.

The senator also pointed out that while Faeldon and other former BOC officials are not directly involved in the shipment, they cannot escape charges of graft and corruption.

“It is still premature insofar as of the rest of the cases go. The Committee is still investigating the tara system. Thus, Customs officials may still be held liable on the tara by committing bribery and other laws under the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act,” he said.
