Electricity bills go up this August

(Eagle News) — Electricity bills will go up again this August because of the rise in the cost of generation charges from power sourced from Power Supply Agreements (PSA).

The Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) said that for this month, there will be an increase of P0.0265 per kilowatt-hour this month, or from P10.1925 per kwh in July to P10.219 per kwh in August.

Thus for a typical household consuming 200 kwh, there will be an additional P5 in their total bill for the month.

Those consuming 300 kwh will have an increase of P11 in their bill, while those consuming 400 kwh will have an additional P11 in their bill.

Meralco said the increase due to the higher PSA charges pushed up the generation charge.

Thus from P5.2651 per kwh last July, the generation charge for August reached P5.3491 per kwh.

Meralco said that there is a P0.6554 per kwh rise in the cost of power from PSAs. This is because of the lower average plant dispatch and higher fuel prices.

The power firm is getting 43 percent of its total requirement from PSA purchases.  (Eagle News Service)
