(Eagle News)–President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday, Dec. 3, said he would ensure ABSCBN would not get its franchise renewed.
The network’s franchise ends in March 2020.
“Ang iyong franchise mag-end next year. If you expect ma-renew ‘yan, I’m sorry. I will see to it that you’re out,” Duterte said.
Congress is expected to tackle ABSCBN’s franchise renewal by the end of this year.
If the franchise is not renewed, the network would have to close down its radio and television operations.
The President has been very vocal against ABSCBN, which he said did not air his political advertisements when he was running for President in 2016 even when he paid for them.
He has also been very vocal against ABSCBN’s reporting, calling it biased.
He said the network was only good at making soap operas.
