(Eagle News)—-President Rodrigo Duterte on Sunday, Jan. 20, visited the wake of SM Group founder Henry Sy Sr. in Taguig.
In a statement, the Palace said the President arrived at The Heritage Park at 10:50 p.m.
He was accompanied by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, National Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperon Jr., presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo, and former Special Assistant to the President Christopher “Bong” Go.
“The President then expressed his sincerest condolences to Sy’s family,” the Palace said.
It said the President stayed for more than an hour before leaving.
In a previous statement, the Palace hailed Sy’s contributions to the Philippine economy, calling him a “visionary” and a “pillar.”
Sy, also chairman emeritus of SM Prime Holdings Inc., SM Development Corp., and Highlands Prime Inc., BDO Unibank Inc., and honorary chairman of China Banking Corp., passed away over the weekend.
He was 94 years old.
