(Eagle News)–President Rodrigo Duterte on Saturday, July 20, visited the wake of four policemen who were reportedly killed by New People’s Army rebels in Negros Oriental.
In a statement, the Philippine National Police also announced it would file charges against those responsible for the deaths of Cpl. Relebert Beronio, Pat. Raffy Callao, Pat. Roel Cabellon and Pat. Marquino de Leon.
The PNP said they were on their way to check reports about the presence of NPA members in Barangay Mabuto, Ayungon, when they were ambushed by an undetermined number of NPA members.
The PNP said the policemen were stripped off their personal belongings including the keys of the motorcycles they were each driving, and were tortured based on the marks on their faces before they were killed.
“The PNP vehemently denounce and condemn in its strongest sense these inhuman acts and the gross violations of human rights done by the CPP-NPA-NDF against our troops,” the PNP said.
“The long arms of the law are now stretching within and beyond the borders to catch all those who are responsible for the deaths of the said personnel,” it added.
