(Eagle News)–President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday, July 22, urged Congress to pass the Trabaho Bill into law.
The Tax Reform for Attracting Better and Higher-quality Opportunities (Trabaho) bill aims to gradually reduce the income tax rate on firms to 20 percent from 30 percent.
In his State of the Nation Address, the President also urged the legislature to pass a new version of the Salary Standardization Law.
“To the teachers who toil, kasali na po ang hinihingi niyo dito,” Duterte said, adding that nurses were also covered if passed.
He said while the increase was not that high, it could “tide them over in these hard times.”
Duterte had promised to double the salary of public school teachers under his administration.
In the first half of his administration, he doubled the salaries of uniformed personnel including policemen and soldiers.
