(Eagle News)—-President Rodrigo Duterte on Saturday, April 13, slammed the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System anew for not preparing for El Niño.

“MWSS. Anak ka ng p***, [every year] may El Niño. Bakit hindi ninyo napaghandaan?” Duterte said two days before he was slated to release his decision on whether or not to axe the water regulator’s officials and terminate contracts of water concessionaires.

This was in light of the water shortage that gripped several customers of Manila Water in Metro Manila and nearby provinces in March.

Manila Water had attributed the shortage to the declining water levels at La Mesa dam but the Palace did not buy this, saying both Maynilad  and Manila Water sourced their water from Angat.

Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo noted that Maynilad customers did not experience water shortage.

In his speech, Duterte noted the MWSS only acted to address the shortage when he gave an ultimatum and threatened to go to Angat himself so water could be released.

“Hindi pa nga dumating ang El Niño wala nang tubig,” he said.
