Duterte says he is mulling appointing Panelo at helm of OPS following Roque threat to quit

(Eagle News)—President Rodrigo Duterte announced he was considering appointing Salvador Panelo at the helm of the Office of the Press Secretary after Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque threatened to quit from his post.

Roque made the threat after he was left in the dark about the President going to Cardinal Santos Medical Center last week to undergo some physical tests.

Roque had told the media the President was only taking a day off in Bahay Pangarap on that day.

“And sabi niya, mag-resign siya. Sabi ko ‘di sige,” Duterte said.

He said there were things that were “limited” to immediate members of the family.

If there was something wrong, then that’s the time Cabinet members are informed,he said.

According to Duterte, Panelo seemed the right person for the OPS but “still, tignan muna natin.”

He said if the OPS was revived, the Presidential Communications Operations Office would be abolished, and Martin Andanar, PCOO Secretary, would be named consultant.
