Duterte: Political dynasties are “bad” but “sometimes they can be for the better”

Notes his daughter, Sara, for instance, was “running the show very well” as mayor in Davao

(Eagle News) — President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday said that while political dynasties were “bad,” sometimes they “can be for the better.”

In a speech at the Go Negosyo 10th Filipina Entrepreneurship Summit in Pasay, the President cited as an example the situation in Davao, where his daughter Sara was mayor.

According to the President, she was  “running the show very well” in the city.

He noted, for instance, her ability to “sustain the momentum” in keeping it safe.

“Kasi kung hindi tumakbo ‘yan si Inday actually, I would not be in front of you right now kasi I never wanted to leave Davao. Manghinayang ako most especially so Davao is in Mindanao and Mindanao is a troubled land,” he said.

Davao City has been the bailiwick of the Dutertes for three decades already.

Congress has yet to pass a measure that will give teeth to the anti-political dynasty provision in the Constitution.
