Drilon: Despite “hardships,” Senate minority bloc of 17th Congress “soldiered on”

(Eagle News)–Senate minority leader Franklin Drilon on Wednesday, June 5, lauded what he said were the accomplishments of the minority bloc in the 17th Congress despite the “hardships” as members of the opposition.

In a statement, Drilon cited his Philippine Identification System Act of Drilon, Francis Pangilinan’s Sagip Saka Act, Bam Aquino’s Free Tuition Act, Risa Hontiveros’ Mental Health Act, detained Senator Leila de Lima’s institutionalization of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program, and Senator Antonio Trillanes IV’s  Magna Carta of the Poor.

Drilon also hailed Aquino and Trillanes as the most productive members of their bloc, and De Lima for passing laws despite being detained over drug-related charges.

He also noted the “healthy working environment” in the Senate, which he said he hoped to see in the 18th Congress.

“What the minority has accomplished is a testament to our desire to serve and prove our worth to the people,” he said.

He noted that “the 17th Congress has not been easy for the opposition.”

“It is hard to be in the opposing side these days,” he said.

“Despite all these, we soldiered on and remained focused on one goal: to get things done for the people,” he added.
