(Eagle News) — Clark, Pampanga can now be a gateway for travelers to Korea.

This was the announcement of the Department of Transportation, after Transportation Secretary Art Tugade witnessed the arrival of the maiden voyage of Korean Air’s Flight KE635 on Sunday, Oct. 27.

The DOTr said Korean Air’s new route is from Clark to Incheon.

There will be one round trip daily, the agency said.

Tugade said the new route is proof of trust between the two countries.

“And I know that Korean Air came here not only because of the revenue that is to be generated, but more importantly, and this was mentioned to me by Ambassador Han – ‘we are going to Clark, if we are going to expand our operations in the Philippines, it’s because we want to show faith and trust in the Republic of the Philippines. It is because we want to show our support to President Duterte.’ – And it is for this reason that I come today, to accept the manifestation that this government is ready and willing to work with you hand in hand,” Tugade said.

He said Clark remains an attractive and viable destination for air traffic and as a logistics hub in Central Luzon.

Pursuing its full development as an alternative gateway, he said, will vastly improve the country’s travel and tourism industry.

Also present in the ceremony were Transportation Undersecretary for Aviation and Airports Manuel Tamayo, Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines Director General Jim Sydiongco, Korea Tourism Organization Director Joon Kil Jo, among others.
