DOJ to start preliminary probe on Dengvaxia deaths on May 15

(Eagle News) — The panel of prosecutors of the Department of Justice (DOJ) has set on May 15 the preliminary investigation on the criminal complaints filed by the families of children who died after receiving the controversial Dengvaxia vaccine.

In the subpoena issued by the panel of prosecutors, the first day of the hearing will be on May 15, 2018, 10:00 AM at the DOJ main office. The next hearing was set on May 24.

Former Department of Health Secretary Janette Garin, current DOH chief Francisco Duque, and executives of vaccine manufacturer Sanofi Pasteur, Inc., are summoned to attend the preliminary hearing of the case as respondents.

The other respondents who are invited to attend the preliminary investigation are officials of PHARMA Corporation and other DOH officials who are also named as respondents of the case.

Representatives from the Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) will also attend the hearings.

The respondents are facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, torture resulting in the death of any person and torture committed against children or violations of the Anti-Torture Law under the Republic Act No. 9745.

According to PAO, the Dengvaxia victims suffered multiple organ failure and brain hemorrhage.
