DOJ: 612 convicts released under GCTA law have surrendered so far

(Eagle News)–Over 600 convicts who were released under the  Good Conduct Time Allowance law have already surrendered to authorities.

According to Justice Undersecretary Markk Perete, as of 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 16, 612 inmates are already in Bureau of Corrections custody.

The deadline for the surrender of the convicts is Sept. 19, based on President Rodrigo Duterte’s directive.

Perete said they were also checking if two of the convicts in the Chiong rape-slay case, James Anthony Uy and Josman Aznar, were among those who surrendered.

The Bureau of Corrections has said 1914 convicts of heinous crimes were released under the GCTA law. Moira Encina
