DFA: Two more Filipino seafarers kidnapped in West Africa

(Eagle News) — Two more Filipino seafarers have been kidnapped in the latest piracy incident monitored by the Department of Foreign Affairs in West Africa.

The DFA said with the kidnapping of the seafarers somewhere in Togo, the number of kidnapped seafarers in the region has risen to 11.

Last week, nine other Filipino seafarers were captured in Benin.

“The Philippine Government is actively tracking the development of the case with the embassy in Abuja, and continuing its coordination with relevant authorities to ensure the safety and security of the Filipino seafarers,” the DFA said.

The DFA added it was maintaining “close contact” with the seafarers’ manning agency.
