DFA to Filipinos: Postpone travel to Iraq

(Eagle News)–The Department of Foreign Affairs is urging Filipinos to postpone their travel to Iraq amid the violent protests in the country.

The DFA said if the travel cannot be delayed, however, Filipinos should avoid  flights with early morning or late night arrivals in Baghdad, Basra, and the Kurdistan Region.

“Curfews are currently imposed in several cities,” the DFA said.

According to the agency, Filipinos in Iraq who need assistance may contact the Philippine Embassy in Baghdad at (+964) 781-606-6822; (+964) 773-569-9562; and (+964) 750-810-5240 or via email: baghdad.pe@dfa.gov.ph.

The Philippine embassy in Iraq is also on Facebook.

Anti-government protests started in October, but took a pause for two weeks and resumed only on Friday.

Protesters are denouncing what they said was corruption and  a lack of accountability in the Iraqi government.
