DepEd condemns ambush in Davao del Sur that saw 16-year-old student killed, 5 others injured

(Eagle News) — The Department of Education (DepEd) on Wednesday  condemned the Oct. 29 ambush of high school students in Davao del Sur that led to the death of a 16-year-old and saw five others injured.

In a statement, the DepEd said it “strongly condemned” the attack by the unidentified gunmen on the Kimlawis National High School students, who were only returning home onboard a truck after attending a local event at the municipal gymnasium at that time.

The DepEd identified the  fatality as Jimbo Lingkanay.

It did not give the names of the five other students injured.

“The Department remains firm in denouncing all forms of violence, threats, and attacks against its students, teachers, officials, and personnel,” the DepEd said, as it called for  “constant vigilance” for the “protection of their safety and well-being inside and outside of school.”

It also extended its condolences to the kin of Langkanay, and asked that everyone pray for the “speedy recovery” of those injured.

“We further support the ongoing investigations to identify the perpetrators, determine the motive, and let true and lasting justice prevail,” the DepEd added.
