DepEd admits error over Metro Manila ‘no classes’ tweet

(Eagle News)– The Department of Education (DepEd) publicly apologized for its false tweet about class suspensions for Metro Manila on Thursday (October 20).

“In an effort to catch all announcement from different sources (government agencies, LGUs, schools, etc), a tweet from a fake account of a trusted agency was quoted,”  DepEd said in a statement.

The agency deleted the tweet, but was already shared by various accounts before it was pulled out.

“This apology comes with the appeal to the public to refrain from unverified or malicious #WalangPasok announcements,” it added.

But classes were still suspended in all levels, both public and private, in Metro Manila as various city governments in the capital made the announcements Wednesday night (October 19), a few hours before typhoon Lawin made landfall in Cagayan.
