Deadline for filing of business license renewal extended until February 28

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — Entrepreneurs will have until February 28, 2017 to pay their tax renewals.

This, after the 18th City Council during its regular session presided over by Vice Mayor Raineir Joaquin V. Uy enacted Ordinance No. 13183-2017, extending the deadline for the filing of business license renewal application from January 20, 2017 to February 28, and for this purpose no surcharges and penalties shall be collected from the taxpayers who will be availing of this.

The ordinance was approved after the business community led by the Oro Chamber requested for the extension of the deadline, citing numerous complaints of a presumptive increase on gross sales/ receipts being imposed on businesses trying to renew their permits using the Electronic Online System.

The group is requesting to assess and correct errors committed and that the adjustments will be made upon presentation of the financial document in the second quarter of the year.

In a letter to Mayor Oscar Moreno, a copy of which was sent to the office of Vice Mayor Raineir Joaquin V. Uy,  Robertino E. Pizarro, president of the Oro Chamber, said the city has been greatly affected by the recent weather disturbance. As such, he said, many businesses are still closed or are in the process of coping up. He said there are some business owners who find it hard to beat the January 20 deadline. The request of the businessmen is to move the deadline of business permit renewal to January 31, 2017. This will  give enough time for the business community to act and do their duties to the city, Pizarro added.

In approving the ordinance, legislators also took cognizance of DILG Memorandum Circular No. 2016-27, on the provision of tax relief or incentives to a business establishment when area of operation has been devastated by disaster, or declared under a state of calamity, or, adversely affected due to preparedness measures of local government units.

The extension of the deadline for renewal of business taxes was favorably endorsed by the committees on finance, budget and appropriations chaired by Councilor Edna M. Dahino and on laws and rules chaired by Councilor Ian Mark Q. Nacaya. (SP)
