Davao police: Bomb detonated via cellphone

(Eagle News)– Davao City Police Director Sr. Supt. Michael John Dubria confirmed on Sunday (September 4) that the improvised explosive device (IED) used in the Roxas night market blast was cellphone-activated.

Dubria also showed members of media a fuse assembly–a part of 60-mm round– found in the liver of one of the survivors.

SPO2 Consorcio Gerones Jr., ordnance specialist of Davao City Police Office-Explosives and Ordnance Division, guaranteed that the use of a 60-mm round ensured a destructive blast.
According to investigations, the man suspected to be behind the blast had a massage at the Roxas night market before 10 p.m. Friday (September 2).
“This IED was carried by one person inside a bag who availed of a massage service of the night market. That person left hurriedly. We believe that IED exploded pag-alis nung tao, ” Dubria said.
Two women are also suspected by the police as cohorts of the bomber.
The night market blast claimed 14 lives while more than 70 got injured.
