Damage to agri and infrastructure brought by Typhoon Ompong now more than Php 18.8-B

(Eagle News) — The damage brought by Typhoon Ompong in the country’s agriculture and infrastructure has reached to more than P18.8 billion after it hit the country a week ago, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Monday, September 24.

For agriculture alone, the damage to crops and livestock reached more than P14.3 billion in Ilocos region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon), Bicol region, and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).

In CAR alone, the number of affected farmers reached 171,932.

Damage to infrastructure was more than P4.48 billion in the same regions, as floods and winds damaged and affected a total of 319 road sections and seven bridges.

As of Sunday, Sept. 23, at least 296 road sections and five bridges were already passable, according to the NDRRMC.

It also said that a total of 117,685 houses were reported damaged — 10,334 severely and 107,351 partially damaged in Regions 1, 2, 3 and CAR.

Meanwhile, the number of persons affected by the weather disturbance has now climbed to more than half a million, or up to 507,945 families in Regions I, II, III, Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon), Mimaropa, National Capital Region and CAR.
