Comelec summons Aquino, 2 others over Dengvaxia vaccination program

(Eagle News)–The Commission on Elections has summoned former President Benigno Aquino III and two others over a case stemming from the Dengvaxia mess.

Aquino, former Health Secretary Janette Garin and former Budget Secretary Florencio Abad have been asked to appear before the Comelec headquarters on March 15 at 10 a.m.

The subpoena was in connection with a case for violation of the law that prohibits the implementation of projects 45 days before an election.

Complainants Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption argued the  vaccination program that saw beneficiaries administered with Dengvaxia was implemented 45 days before the 2016 elections.

Over 800,000 were vaccinated under the program, which was later stopped following findings Dengvaxia could cause severe cases in those who have not had dengue beforehand.
