(Eagle News) — Citing the impact of the new tax reform law on fuel prices, ride-hailing company Grab on Friday asked the Land Transportation Franchising Regulatory Board that it be allowed to implement a 5 percent fare increase.
In its petition, Grab sought to charge its customers P11 to P15 per kilometer traveled, up from the P10 to P14 it charged.
The company also sought to increase its P2 per minute charge to P2.10 per minute.
In asking for the increase, the company said the implementation of the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion law, which took effect on January 1, would lead to higher gas prices and therefore a lower take-home pay for its drivers.
A briefer said the law decreases income tax but increases excise taxes on fuel, among others.
