Cavite placed under state of calamity

(Eagle News) — The provincial board of Cavite has placed the province, which is reeling from the effects of Taal’s volcanic activity, under a state of calamity.

The board did this through  Resolution No. 1389-2020, the passage of which was announced on Wednesday, Jan. 15, by the provincial government in its official Facebook page.

According to the provincial government, so far,  eight barangays of Tagaytay City were classified as “highly susceptible to greater damage in the event of an eruption of Taal Volcano.”

A mandatory evacuation of all residents from Barangays Bagong Tubig and Sambong “as a preemptive action in light of the heightened possibility of a more destructive eruption of Taal Volcano in the coming days” is ongoing.

The provincial government said evacuees will be sheltered at the former Department of Health rehabilitation facility adjacent to the Tagaytay Skateboarding Park and at the City College of Tagaytay.

In Bacoor City, the provincial government said the Bacoor Bureau of Fire Protection conducted flushing operations in Bacoor National High School, Molino Elementary School, City of Bacoor National High School, at Bayanan National High School to clean the ash and dust  from Taal’s activity.

An alert level 4 remains hoisted over the volcano, which means a hazardous explosive eruption was possible in hours or days.
