Bus in India collides with truck, kills 22

BAREILLY, India (Reuters) – At least 22 people died and 15 others injured in India’s northern Bareilly city on Monday (June 5), after a bus collided with a truck and immediately caught on fire.

The bus belonged to Uttar Pradesh State Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) and was on the way to Gonda from New Delhi.

Authorities have not been able to identify any of the bodies.

According to local media, the truck was seized but the driver managed to flee.

According to government data, someone dies every 3.7 minutes in road accidents in a country known for rash driving, inadequate traffic enforcement, badly maintained roads and poor quality cars.
