BSP: Members of the public should bring “faceless bill” to us if they come across it

Netizen Earla Anne Yehey is seen holding up the “faceless” P100 bills she said she withdrew from a Bank of the Philippine Islands automated teller machine early Sunday, December 25, in this picture posted on her Facebook account.

(Eagle News) – The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas on Thursday called on members of the public to come forward should they come across a “faceless” bill.

“Pakiusap sa mga tao, pag may nakuhang ganyan, maaari pong dalhin sa BSP. Kung napatunayan naming na totoo ang pera, papalitan namin agad,” Carlyn Pangilinan, head of the BSP’s currency management sector, said in an interview over radio dzbb.

According to Pangilinan, they could also go to the nearest bank and surrender the bill if the BSP headquarters—which is located in Manila—is too far from them.

Pangilinan said, however, that if the money was fake, it may take a longer time to be replaced.

She said this was because the bills would still have to be brought by the concerned bank to BSP, which has the “final say” on whether or not a bill or coin is authentic.

“Kung gusto nila na agaran at malaman na tunay ito agaran, suggestion namin dalhin ito sa BSP,” she said.

Asked about developments in the BSP’s investigation into the “faceless bills” supposedly withdrawn by a netizen from a Bank of the Philippine Islands automated teller machine, Pangilinan said they were still coordinating with BPI so they could get a hold of the supposed bills.

She said they have reached out to the netizen, but she has so far not yet responded.

“Kailangan naming makita ang pera ng harapan. Yun ang paraan para maimbestigahan namin kung authentic ito, or kung nagkaproblema sa aming production,” she said.
