Trump wins US presidency

AMERICAN Billionaire Donald Trump stunned America and the world Wednesday, riding a wave of populist resentment to defeat Hillary Clinton in the race to become the 45th president of the United States.

The Republican mogul defeated his Democratic rival, plunging global markets into turmoil and casting the long-standing global political order, which hinges on Washington’s leadership, into doubt.

In his speech after his stunning win, Trump said his rival, Clinton, already called him up to congratulate him.

“I just received a call from Secretary Clinton. She congratulated us on – and it’s about us – on our victory, and I congratulated her and her family on a very, very hard fought campaign,” President-elect Donald Trump began at his victory party. “She fought hard. Hillary has worked very long and very hard over a long period of time, and we owe her a major debt of gratitude for her service to our country. I mean that very seriously,” he said.

Trump continued, “Now it’s time for America to bind the wounds of division.”

“It is time for us to come together as one united people.”

“Ours was not a campaign, but rather, an incredible and great movement.”

“Every single American will have the opportunity to realize his or her fullest potential,” Donald Trump said in his victory speech. “The forgotten men and women of our country will be forgotten no longer. We are going to fix our inner cities and rebuild our … infrastructure, which will become, by the way, second to none.”

Trump said that the US under his presidency “will get along with all other nations willing to get along with us.”

“We will get along fairly with everyone,” he said, and seek “partnership, not conflict,” he added.
