BIR will tax surplus campaign contribution

MANILA, Philippines – The Bureau of Internal Revenue will tax the surplus campaign contributions received by politicians. According to BIR Commissioner Kim Henares, candidates receive millions of donations to their campaign funds and that they can only spend a limited portion of said amount. As such, unused donations will be considered as extra income of the candidates. Henares added that it is better for candidates to return the surplus contributions.
