Batanes still under Signal No. 1 as “Hanna” moves slowly over PHL Sea

(Eagle News)–Signal No. 1 remains hoisted over Batanes as Typhoon “Hanna” moved slowly over the Philippine Sea on Wednesday, Aug. 7.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said as of 10 a.m., the eye of the typhoon was located 630 kilometers east of Basco, packing  maximum sustained winds of 130 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 160 kph.

“Hanna” is moving north northwest slowly.

According to PAGASA, the  outer rainbands of “Hanna” will bring light to moderate with at times heavy rains and gusty winds over Batanes today and tomorrow, Aug. 8.

Moderate to heavy monsoon rains are expected over the northern portions of Palawan (including Calamian and Cuyo Islands), Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Romblon, Zambales, Bataan, Aklan, Antique, Iloilo and Guimaras, the weather bureau said.

Light to moderate with at times heavy rains will also prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon and Western Visayas.

According to PAGASA, the  western sections of Luzon and Visayas will experience occasional gusty conditions due to the southwest monsoon.

“Fisherfolk and those with small seacraft are advised not to venture out over the seaboards of areas under (Signal No. 1), the seaboards of Luzon and Visayas, and the northern and eastern seaboards of Mindanao due to potentially rough sea conditions,” PAGASA said.
