Año: Charges to be filed vs those responsible for Boracay mess

Task force that will look into possible liability of local officials since 2001 formed

(Eagle News)— Charges will be filed against those responsible for what happened to Boracay, Department of the Interior and Local Government officer in charge Eduardo Año said.

In an interview with reporters, Año said the charges will be filed “in the six months timeframe” he said was given by President Rodrigo Duterte for the DILG and other departments to clean up the island.

He said a task force that will look into the possible liability of local officials has already been formed.

So far, over 800 establishments have been found to violate environmental regulations.

Senators visited the island on Thursday to look at its status, and to determine what could be done to save it.

Duterte has called the island a “cesspool” in previous speeches.
