Actor Liam Hemsworth receives Golden Eye Award in Zurich

Australian actor Actor Liam Hemsworth took time to greet his fans, signing autographs and posing for pictures, before receiving the Golden Eye Award at the Zurich Film Festival on Saturday (September 26).

Film fans waited for hours to take pictures or get their posters signed by the “Hunger Games” star Hemsworth.

Hemsworth, who has seen his star rise in Hollywood, playing a leading role in dystopian young adult film franchise “The Hunger Games” and taking on action roles in “The Expendables 2” and “Paranoia”, told media he felt honoured to be part of the Zurich Festival.

“I feel very honoured, you know, I feel very fortunate to be part of this festival,” Hemsworth told media on the green carpet. “It’s, you know, a relatively young festival, I guess but something that’s celebrating and honouring filmmaking and yeah, I’m very honoured to be a part of it.”

After greeting fans on the “green carpet”, Melbourne-born Hemsworth headed for the Golden Eye Award ceremony.

Hemsworth walked up to the stage to receive his award, which recognises his achievements as “The New A-Lister”.

Speaking from stage, Hemsworth commented on his new film where he stars opposite Kate Winslet, saying he had been looking for an opportunity to do a film in Australia after spending six years in Hollywood.

“I sort of have been looking for a few years to do a film back in Australia. I’ve been working in America for the past six years and I really just wanted to go back and do something in my own accent. This came along and Kate Winslet was a part of it and that was the deciding factor. Yeah, it was just a great opportunity,” Hemsworth said from stage.

His new film “The Dressmaker” with Kate Winslet takes place in 1950s Australia.

The Zurich Film Festival (ZFF) has established itself as one of the world’s top films festivals, discovering and promoting independent voices and talent from around the world, showcasing a diverse array of international films and serving as the setting for many world and European premieres.
