5.6 magnitude quake shakes North Cotabato

 

(Eagle News) – A strong 5.6 magnitude quake struck 20 kilometers southwest of Makilala, North Cotabato Tuesday night, July 9, followed by aftershocks, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The quake was of tectonic region and had a depth of 14 kilometers.

It struck at 8:36 p.m., Tuesday. Its strongest aftershock so far occurred at 10:12 p.m. and 11:31 p.m., both with a magnitude of 4.8.

The quake was felt at intensity 5 in Makilala, North Cotabato; Kidapawan City; Koronadal City; and Santa Cruz, Davao Del Sur.

It was felt at intensity 4 in- Davao City; Polomolok, Tupi, Tampakan, Sto. Nino, Tacurong City & Quirino, Sultan Kudarat; and Glan and Malungon, Sarangani.

It was also felt at intensity 3 in General Santos City; Kiamba, Sarangani; and at intensity 2 in Cotabato City and Nabunturan, Compostela Valley.
