Duterte declines EU invite to October summit; “They have always been imperialists,” he says

(Eagle News) — President Rodrigo Duterte has declined an invitation  to the Asia-Europe meeting in Belgium this year sent by the European Union.

“Well, I just don’t like their attitude. That’s all,” the President said.

“You have always been imperialists ever since,” he said, noting that the bloc has always wanted to impose its own values on other countries.

He added a trip to Europe would cost a lot.

EU ambassador to the Philippines Franz Jessen earlier said that the Philippines has rejected the EU-Philippine Trade Related Technical Assistance.

Duterte has long accused the bloc of intervening in Philippine affairs.
