(Eagle News) — Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri on Friday hailed the “successive developments” in the Horacio Castillo III hazing case.

Zubiri issued the statement on the same day the National Bureau of Investigation revealed that the 10 charged over the University of Sto. Tomas law freshman student’s death in September 2017 were in its custody.

Mhin Wei Chan, Jose Miguel Salamat, John Robin G. Ramos, Marcelino Bagtang Jr., Arvin Balag, Ralph Trangia, Axel Munro Hipe, Oliver Onofre, Joshua Joriel Macabali and Hans Matthew Rodrigo had been ordered arrested by Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 40 Judge Alfredo Ampuan Jr. a day before.

NBI Deputy Director Ferdinand Lavin said the 10 were “picked up from one place” and brought to the NBI headquarters around 11 a.m.

According to Zubiri, these developments, which the Senate helped to bring about through its investigation and committee report, “continue to give us hope that justice will be served to (Castillo’s) family.”

Castillo was killed in hazing rites believed conducted by the Aegis Juris fraternity, of which the 10 accused were members.
