The wedding of Prince Harry and the American former actress Meghan Markle will take place on May 19 at Windsor Castle, 30 km west of London.

The ceremony is due to start at 12 noon at St George’s Chapel.

The Archbishop of Canterbury, leader of the Anglican Church, will officiate as the couple make their wedding vows. The Chapel will be decorated with white roses, peonies and branches of beech and birch from local sources.

Prince William, elder brother of Harry, will be best man.

Once married, at 1pm, the newlyweds will enjoy a 25-minute ride through Windsor in a horse-drawn carriage. 2640 people, including 1200 members of the public, have been invited to the castle’s park to attend the arrival of the couple and their guests.

100,000 people are expected in the streets of Windsor, where tight security will be in place: car scans, tourist checks, police patrols in the streets and on trains.

Tourists will be able to follow the ceremony on giant screens in the town.

After the carriage tour, 600 people will attend a reception hosted by Queen Elizabeth II at St George’s Hall, the majestic banquet hall of Windsor Castle.

A more private reception for 200 guests will be held by Prince Charles in the evening at Frogmore House.
