U.S. firefighters battle multiple wildfires across California

A fast-growing brush fire prompted mandatory evacuations on Tuesday (September 27) from an area of the Santa Cruz mountains in Northern California, according to the California government website.

The blaze charred about 2200 acres of drought-parched vegetation, burned two homes and threatened at least 300 structures, according to the website.

Air tankers and helicopters assisted the firefighters to battle the so-called ‘Loma’ fire, officials said.

In Tuolumne County, in Northern California, a fire that broke out on Monday in the town of Moccasin consumed 930 acres without being contained, NBC reported.

One firefighter was injured and 14 houses evacuated when the so-called ‘Marshes’ fire threatened power lines and a nearby power plant, NBC said.

To date this year, a total of 4,800 wildfires large and small have blackened more than 204,000 acres statewide, nearly 100,000 acres more than at the same time last year, Cal Fire reported.
