Typhoon “Luis” to leave PAR Monday morning

MANILA, Philippines — Typhoon “Luis” is expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Monday morning, Sept. 15, according to PAGASA, as “Luis” moves west northwest at 30 kph.

As of 4 a.m. today, September 15, typhoon Luis was located at 100 kilometers west northwest of Laoag City (City (18.4ºN, 119.7ºE) with maximum sustained winds of 120 kph and gustiness of up to 150 kph.

By Sept. 16, Tuesday, it will be already 811 km West Northwest of Laoag City.

Ilocos Norte is under signal number 3, with winds of 101-185 kph is expected in at least 18 hrs, said PAGASA in its weather bulletin issued at 5 a.m. today.

The provinces of Cagayan including Babuyan and Calayan Group of Islands, Apayao, Kalinga, Abra, Mt. Province and Ilocos Sur were under signal number 2, with

winds of 61-100 kph is expected in at least 24 hrs.  The provinces of Isabela, Ifugao, Nueva Vizcaya, Benguet, La Union, Pangasinan and Batanes Group of islands were placed under signal number 1, with winds of 30 – 60 kph is expected in at least 36 hours.

Public storm warning signals elsewhere are now lowered.

Residents in low lying and mountainous areas under signal #3, #2 and #1 are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides. Likewise, those living in coastal areas under signal #3 and #2 are alerted against storm surges of up to 2 meters.

Estimated rainfall amount is from 8 – 20 mm per hour (heavy – Intense) within the 500 km diameter of the Typhoon.

The rest of Luzon will have monsoon rains with moderate to strong southwesterly surface windflow due to the Southwest Monsoon.

Fishing boats and other small seacrafts are advised not to venture out over the seaboards of Luzon and over the western and central seaboards of Visayas.

The public and the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (DRRMC) concerned are advised to take appropriate actions and watch for the next bulletin to be issued at 11 AM today.
