KARKAMIS, Turkey (AFP) — A dozen Turkish tanks on Wednesday entered Syrian territory to take part in the battle to push Islamic State (IS) jihadists out of the town of Jarabulus, an AFP photographer reported.

The tanks were seen operating on the other side of the border and firing on IS-held Jarabulus. They were followed by several smaller military vehicles believed to be carrying pro-Ankara Syrian rebels who had also crossed over, the photographer added.
