Tugade: DOTr ready for onslaught of “Ompong”

(Eagle News) — Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade on Friday, Sept. 14, said the Department of Transportation was ready for the onslaught of Typhoon “Ompong.”

“We are at your disposal. Your government is ready to respond. We can weather the storm, together,” Tugade said in a  statement.

According to Tugade, the agency would do its best to meet the needs of passengers who might have been affected by flight cancellations, among others.

He said while they understood the passengers’ sentiments about waiting and being stranded in ports and airports, authorities were only asking for a bit of patience as the cancellations and delays were only to ensure their safety.

The DOTr said the  Philippine Ports Authority has moved passengers stranded at the Manila North Harbor to an evacuation center in Tondo, while those who were affected in Dumaguete were transferred to city evacuation centers.

Tugade also urged the public to prepare for the typhoon.

“Humagupit man iyan o hindi, bukod sa relief goods, may nakahanda tayong cash para ipambili ng mga pinaka-kailangan ng mga kababayan natin,” he added.
