Tropical Depression “Odette” slightly intensifies; is expected to make landfall over Cagayan tonight

(Eagle News) — Tropical Depression “Odette” has slightly intensified as it moved westward over the Philippine Sea.

In its 11 a.m. weather bulletin on Thursday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said “Odette”–whose eye was last seen 540 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City—was expected to make  landfall in Cagayan tonight, moving at 30 kilometers per hour.

Pagasa said moderate to heavy rains are expected within the 350-km diameter of the tropical depression, which is currently packing maximum sustained winds of up to 55 kph near the center, and gustiness of up to 65 kph.

Signal No. 1 has been hoisted over Batanes, Cagayan including the Babuyan Group of Islands, Isabela, Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur.

On Friday morning, “Odette” is expected to be 50 km west southwest of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte.

Pagasa said “Odette” was expected to leave the Philippine area of responsibility on Saturday morning.
