(Eagle News) — The tropical cyclone warning signal hoisted over the northern portion of Ilocos Sur has been lifted, as Tropical Depression “Josie” headed toward the Babuyan Group of Islands.

Signal Number One has been hoisted over Batanes, northern Cagayan including the island group, Ilocos Norte, Apayao and the northern portion of Abra, with the center of “Josie” estimated 70 kilometers north of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte or 95 km west southwest of Calayan, Cagayan as of 7 p.m.

“Josie” is packing maximum sustained winds of up to 55 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 75 kilometers per hour.

It is also moving east northeast at 35 kilometers per hour.

PAGASA said scattered to widespread moderate to heavy rains will prevail over Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Batanes, Babuyan Group of Islands, Zambales, Tarlac, and Nueva Ecija.

Scattered light to moderate with occasional heavy rains are, meanwhile, expected over Metro Manila, Calabarzon, the rest of Central Luzon and of Cagayan Valley, and Mindoro provinces.

” Sea travel remains risky over the seaboards of Northern Luzon and the western seaboard of Central Luzon, especially in areas under Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal #1,” PAGASA said.
