Trillanes confirms meeting with US senior gov’t officials; says he “pushed for interests” of PHL

(Eagle News) — Senator Antonio Trillanes IV on Friday confirmed meeting with senior United States government officials, including, Republican Senator Marco Rubio, but made the assurance that “unlike the officials of the Duterte administration,” he “presented only factual information.”

“Besides, you cannot fool the US government. They know what is happening in our country,” he said.

He confirmed he and Rubio, in particular, talked about “enhancing RP-US relations, corruption, and the human rights situation in the country.”

He also noted he “did not try to stop the state visit of (US) President Trump.”

“…these things are carefully planned and cannot be stopped on a mere say so of a Philippine senator,” he said.

Overall, he said he “pushed for the interests of our country.”

“But let me emphasize that the interests of our country are not necessarily the same as the interests of Mr. Duterte,” he said.
